G-d Bless you Gabrielle Giffords

By the time I was born in 1983 my grandfather had survived a congressional campaign in south Florida and held posts in both the JFK and Bobby Kennedy campaigns. In the 1960's He raised money for Freedom Rides and continued to identify as the child of socialist Russians, even when Joe McCarthy was at the height of his rampage. Today he's finally retired in Harry Reid's district; personally I thought that this was grandpas last political triumph- he would boast and love for years- and nothing could beat the health care reform in importance or prestige; but now it's more: eradication of subversive citizens!

As a child I made the rounds with Grandpa. He would take me to the Jewish Federation in Hollywood, to the Veteran’s Hospitals, to different flag raising ceremonies on many different national holidays- I was his pet. I admit it. I was chosen. SO! I could have been the 9 year-old little girl; the elected elementary school official- proudly wearing her school regalia and excited to learn about the processes of government.

Only recently have Grandpa and I discussed how much evil exists in the USA; we have always talked about ‘crazies’ like Ted Bundy (* especially before going off for my first year to FSU); Timothy McVeigh… seeing lifeless American babies being pulled from rubble at twelve years old left a huge but terrified impression on me; Osama Bin Laden has been in our dialogue since my freshman year in college- we will never forget when I was told to rip up my first Macroeconomics scantron, and to leave the auditorium in Diffenbaugh- that there was a national catastrophe.

Part of my childhood was an indoctrination of World War II and Holocaust (Shoah) images- did I expect liberal and accepting Murray to say that Sarah Palin is no better than Hitler, in 2007? Never. The use of labels to invoke the nearly wiping out of eastern European Jewry...they are very Glen Beck’ian- not Goldsteinesque. But are they? Is this not the same provoking of society with threats of violence and job loss? Is it not the same to identify an entire ethnic group as terrorists and shun the building of a religious establishment blocks from ground zero…why are these people the ones to set the standards for America? Rush Limbaugh has used Oxycontin. I would not trust him with keys to my apartment.

It’s taken me two days to put my thoughts in order, and to stop the urge to cry: I am Christina. A week ago my grandfather had no clue what I was talking about, “the first online war”: Wikileaks. To think only days ago that the world was on an international witch-hunt for Julian Assange; where are these pitchforks and why aren’t they in Alaska chasing Sarah Palin? Her obscurity. Her references are much more…they’re the Heinrich Himmler’s to WHO? I would hope that prisoner of war John McCain has renounced and disassociated, completely.

Those that give airtime or print (publishing) exposure to those that urge one group of people to attack another should be taken out of the mainstream media. Since the White House determined Fox deserved Helen Thomas’s seat in their press corps, Fox News should be under the same scrutiny that CNN is; if Anderson Cooper said any of the spin Beck spews his ratings and sponsors would pull from under him. Good thing Anderson Cooper shuns.

Children's Museum of the Arts

During Hanukkah (2010/5771) I wished for everyone I know to make a charitable donation to the Children’s Museum of the Arts (www.CMANY.org). This donation provided monies for the museum to facilitate one-on-one educational opportunities to children under the Autism spectrum. I am in the Marketing branch of the Young Professional Committee- and my job is to cheerlead for my entity; it’s not hard- there is more good than bad to discuss.
The Children’s Museum of the Arts is the only facility in the world that provides free classes to special needs children; these families are forever changed. Children that are worked with individually are more expressive, try harder to accomplish small tasks, and walk away from the classroom setting remembering what they learned. Children under the spectrum have vastly different abilities and disabilities- but they can when they try.
With each dollar raised by the Children’s Museum of the Arts the YPC is setting the pace; no other museum in the world has given so much to its members and community. No other museum provides educational stimulation and knowledge to those that are considered “unteachable”. There is no “no” at CMANY, just the opposite of “not yet, not now, maybe later”. CMANY invites the parents and siblings to participate- to be able to facilitate the same learning environment when away from Lafayette and Broadway. CMANY educators come each week to give back; they know that their services are intangible- they can’t be quantified.
Imagine seeing your little sister write her name for the first time; see your son smile when he’s told that he is “doing the job correctly”. This isn’t a museum for one type of child; this is a facility that gives back to all. There is not an ethnic group, religion or society untouched by these children. 1 in 100 children are under our spectrum, are you?

Social Network could have been more fun, if they'd portrayed B's parties I LOVE YOU BGL

In 2003/4 I knew people writing code- and none of them sat in circles around computers taking shots when they finished a line. It wasn't Dewars. It was Absinthe. Maybe grain alcohol and hunch punch. When we moved to Miami, B and I made a pact that he would set up an entire networking system in the guest bedroom/office and if/when there was a server crash all I'd have to do is press a button.

In 2003 when my moms-friends-nephew Brandon told me that he and his manfriend Scott G. had started a social network for FSU students ONLY I said "OK I will check it out".

ItsyKalli was born.

Little did I know that the community of Noleweb would be so much cooler than Mark Zuckerberg's mess. We are still friends. We still support each other. We still love each other. We are there for each other. For a person who has opened the internet to billions of "friends" he has very few.

I learned moderating.

I learned analog HTML

I learned XML

I learned social media integration 6 years ago.

I knew that there would one day be a site that would overpower MySpace (which I still see as a hub for predators and pedophiles).

I knew one day there would be a portal to sign into and communicate with contacts through instant messaging (AIM application and AOL messaging would be no more).

I knew there would be a site that would ALLOW people to know WHO you are related to, working for, and where you are sleeping (geotargeted location finders and GPS no more!)

When Facebook popped at FSU I said "OK I will sign up". In 2004 I registered...I was living in Frog Pond way far out past Ocala and club Publix, hanging out with Rachel Gerber...avoiding the fact that in less than 2 semesters I would be graduating from college, with a degree in History and Social Science Education...not wanting to teach. I applied to FIU and told the graduate committee that I was passionate about teaching History at a collegiate level, and getting my PhD in Pan-African studies. HAHAHAHAHA (its 2010, I am still cracking up reading my LiveJournal entries about how much I hated Thomas Jefferson...even though professor Howard Rock at FIU is a phenomenal educator, it was the last thing I should have been taking- I was wasting a seat).

I went online. I saw on Monster.com that there was a media outlet hiring online and print media sales reps. I said OOOOH online sales rep, that's what Brandon and Scott were trying to develop into the Noleweb site, and I could so sell a ton of ad space. It was something OTHER than being a TA- grading thousands of Medieval History and Western European history papers at FIU HIS2000 level- this could cause ANYONE to want to work on the phone and going door to door. I learned how to sell the things we needed on Noleweb. For hours I would sit thinking and discussing how to grow my online marketing list. I understood that I could only grow if the site was growing. I knew that there had to be a way to get more attention for the site through other sites. I began publishing artwork and ad placement on Facebook, Twitter, Craigslist and Backpage- in addition to running their print and online banner ads/or emailed newsletter inclusions. I knew the only way to guarantee ROI was getting them as much bang for the buck...

I took the knowledge I had acquired on the inside of web production and said goodbye to Nolewebisms. I knew that with the growth of MySpace around the world, and the opening of Facebook to anyone that wanted to be a part of the sites network- there was no way that the site could stay fluid (especially with its founders far from Tallahassee, in body but not spirit). When Noleweb became a Fanpage and Group on Facebook I realized that the social media sphere was consolidating. People weren't MySpacing as much or posting anxiety filled posts on LiveJournal. They were microblogging on Facebook- saying what they were doing, and tagging people in pictures (and sending them free gifts).

When Facebook took Noleweb, or Noleweb gave it up to Facebook...we fell in line with hundreds of other micromedia sites that had at one time been the projects of nerdy coders and their collegiate roommates. Although "Social Media" was a great portrayal of what happened on this platform- it leads me to the next question- what is "popping" next.

I think that WHRRL will overpower FourSquare as a geolocator/check in game. I know that Bing is revolutionary. WHRRL is powered by Bing. Every time a person checks in with the WHRRL app, the business or checked in property is updated on BING. That means there is a record of reviews and audience- plus when people search through Bing they can see who is inside (eliminates the GPS'ing of your Ex?).

I think that GOOGLEME may one day be the biggest social media platform in existence.

When "You've Got Mail" reviews brought so much attention towards AOL it began to flounder- more .com's and startups gained press coverage through the media trying to discover what could be the next AOL.

There is no next AOL.

After AOL it became MySpace.

After MySpace it became Facebook.

Twitter falls somewhere in the gray middle- a place that is like Digg, a way to collate articles and microblog.

LiveJournal's heyday ended with the impromptu immediate updates one can make and reach out to their entire network through Facebook and Twitter connect! If you blog on Twitter it can stream right into your Facebook? Partnerships and working together as a social media time- genius!

I think that Facebook needs to clean up its act. I abuse this site as much as other social media consultants and HTML analog experts. BUT this site should not be used as a means of slandering or harming others. When AOL chatrooms caused children to feel ostracized and humiliated in the 1990's, AOL was banned from the school system. This can not be done with Facebook. Facebook is in their hands- their personal cellphones can reek havoc. Children are committing suicide- jealous men are tying women up and holding them captive- and employers are terminating individuals through their blatant misappropriation on this site. I personally disassociate with people that feel they are the reason for the season, or the target of my Facebooking.

Take a step back people...we should still be microblogging and using indy social media sites. I miss you Noleweb, you never had anyone badmouthing the ACC in my newsfeed.
